This evening is the second "go" at the 4th round FA Cup match between these 2 teams. This one is at Old Trafford as the first tie at the Abbey Stadium in Cambridge resulted in a nil:nil draw. A replay is great for Cambridge - think of the money for new players - although a win is perhaps far too much to hope. Good luck Cambridge United!

UPDATE 2320z: Sadly Cambridge United lost 3:0 to Manchester United. Never mind. It is certainly no disgrace to be knocked out by the much richer club. They must now focus on the league.

Cambridge United v Manchester United in the FA Cup 4th round
This match was on BBC TV this evening.
Humble little Cambridge United (non-league until this season) held mighty Manchester United to a 0:0 draw and win a replay, worth an estimated £1.5M to Cambridge, at Old Trafford. It was a great game and Cambridge outclassed the Premier League team for quite a lot of the time. Well done Cambridge!

Football results - League Division 2
It was a good week for the Devon clubs in League 2.
Plymouth beat Northampton 3-2 away from home and Exeter won 2-0. Both teams are currently in the play-off zone. I do hope they manage to get to the automatic promotion places.
It is a pity that Torquay were relegated to the Conference last season. There is an outside chance they could be back in the league next year, but they need to keep winning every game.
Local team Cambridge United who were promoted from the Football Conference this year are doing pretty well too.

UK football (soccer) season again
It seems only a few weeks since the last season ended, but here we are at the start of a new football season already. Newly promoted Cambridge United (the "U's") played Plymouth Argyle (the Pilgrims) at home. They won 1:0 too.
I "sort of" support Plymouth (Devon team) but also want Cambridge United to do well. It was the first game, so a lot can change. I hope Plymouth manage to pick themselves up from their away defeat and do well for the rest of the season.
Newly relegated Torquay (also a Devon team) managed to lose their first game in the Football Conference.

Cambridge United promoted (back) into Football League
After several seasons in the Conference League, Cambridge United beat Gateshead at Wembley this evening to gain promotion back into the Football League Division 2. So next season they will be pitted against the like of Plymouth Argyle.
It was a tense end to their season as they lost against Gateshead at Wembley last Sunday. The promotion is well deserved and, although (mainly) a "fireside supporter" it pleases me enormously.
See http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27360422 .
It is a pity the BBC or ITV don't broadcast League 2 games live. MUCH less expensive than Premier League and the clubs would benefit enormously from the broadcasting rights.

Cambridge United FC
Cambridge United ( the "U's") are off to Wembley for the Conference play-off finals. I sincerely hope they make it back into the Football League. They deserve it.
The play-off final kicks off at 4pm Sunday May 18th.
